A lovely view of the sunset, good food and drinks, excellent service, beautiful surroundings... Sound familiar? No, it's not where you think. There's a new restaurant on Los Muertos beach called Amapas Sunset, and it's right next door to the one you were probably thinking of!
We have been there twice for dinner and once for lunch, and it was, as you might have guessed, worth going back again, and again.
At this time of year, when so many of the restaurants in Puerto Vallarta are closing for the season, or at the least for several weeks, it is so nice for those of us who brave the humidity to have a new place to go for an exceptional meal this summer.
Every dish we've tried has been either very tasty or excellent! So far, we've sampled the Tampiquena, which comes with an enchilada, rice, guacamole, (not to mention the most tender piece of meat I've ever had on a combination plate,) the Tortilla Soup, the Chicken Cordon Bleu, (which could have had a little sauce on it, it was the slightest bit dry,) the Caesar Salad and the Fish Filet Sarandeado, which was very tasty.
Not to mention desserts like sinful Crème Brûlée and the loveliest Homemade Almond Ice Cream... But not your usual almond ice cream. Instead of the usual almond flavoring, it's like the best vanilla you've ever had with a million of the smallest of small pieces of ground almonds all through it! Delicious!
All in all, the only complaint I have about the menu is that I think that they would do well to have a few more finger foods - snack foods!
And the all important service could not have been better. Attentive, but not hovering. Very helpful, and on a couple of instances, above and beyond the call of duty!
The building is more than you usually expect for a beach restaurant, but still appropriate for the beach. And they also have beach service with very comfortable lounges. Soon they will also be opening a bar/cafe on the street level, that will be perfect for a sunset drink.
All in all, Amapas Sunset is a place that you should try if you are into lovely settings, good food, perfect views of Vallarta's famous sunsets, and friendly people. Live music on Thursday-Sunday nights is just one more reason to visit often!
