Need a last-minute getaway before the end of summer? Luxury hotels are offering the biggest deals because they have more wiggle room in pricing. And resorts within driving distance of New York are slashing prices.
Gabe Saglie, Senior Editor of Travelzoo.com, tells us the Ocean Edge Resort and Golf Club in Cape Cod features the only Jack Nicklaus-designed golf course in Cape Cod. It's an all-inclusive resort, with several pools and tennis courts. And the price breaks down to "$159 a night through October."
The Palomar is a four-diamond boutique hotel in the heart of Washington, D.C. Saglie says "they have a complimentary wine and sangria hour and free wi-fi for all their guests. At $129 a night, you're looking at 65% off (their regular prices)."
if Atlantic City is more your speed, the Tropicana Resort is offering free daily breakfast and a free upgrade to a Classic Room, for $79 a night in September and October.
The Radisson Plaza-Warwick Hotel in Philadelphia's Rittenhouse Square District is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. A King room there will now cost just $99 a night.
Before swine flu fears ramp up again, Mexico is luring travelers with huge discounts at luxury resorts. A four-night stay at the Four Season Resort in Punta Mita, near Puerto Vallarta, includes a $1,200 credit that you can apply to your room rate. Saglie says, "once you do the math, you're paying $107 a night for staying at a resort where some would pay $1000 a night."
If you do stay close to home in the Big Apple, Broadway is unveiling discounts, too. Prices for top shows like "Chicago" and "9 to 5" are nearly half off.
