Sally's Corner Construction Underway

Though our beloved Sally Conley is no longer with us, the construction on "Rincon de Sally" (Sally's Corner) is now underway at Biblioteca Los Mangos.
For many years, and with much love, Sally had "Biblioteca de Higuera" at her home in El Pitillal where the local kids gathered to learn the love of reading as well as participate in art classes, computer classes and other special projects.
Many of the "students" started at her little library when they were just beginning school and then went on to high schools and universities - but always coming back to visit Sally which of course, thrilled her no end. Sally passed away last year but her memory will live on at the children's library, thanks to the generosity of many of her loving friends and family through donations made in her name.
The architectural design of the new Children's Library at Los Mangos was generously done by Francisco Marugan. He incorporated many of the special items from the Biblioteca de Higuera into the design of Sally's Corner including the big higuera tree (a "pretend" one) so that the children will be able to sit underneath it during story time.
The direction and construction is being done by an energetic young couple, Marysol Velasquez (architect) and her husband who is an engineer, Arturo de Niz Velasquez. Since they have a small child, they have been thinking of all of the necessary safety issues!
The finish date is projected to be the end of November, which will coincide with the anniversary of Los Mangos Library. Announcements and further information on this event will be forthcoming.
Beginning in January 2010, the program for local children will begin at Sally's Corner. This will be a weekly, no-charge gathering each week with projects and themes varying.
