We are so excited that "El Rincon de Sally" (Sally's Corner) at Los Mangos Library is nearly complete! It happened, thankfully, much faster than we ever imagined that it would. The design, painting and final touches of the "higuera tree" are magically being created (and donated) by Cherie Sibley (local artiste extraordinaire!) and her crew of talented painters.
This tree is a replica of the real, live higuera tree that was at Sally Conley's library in El Pitillal, Biblioteca de la Higuera. I was in awe as Cherie came to Los Mangos one afternoon to take a look at the space.
Within minutes she had her paper and pencil out and had sketched what was in her mind's eye for the space allotted for the tree. With branches winding and curling in all directions, it will be both whimsical and enchanting as she and her artists fill it in with birds and what not!
Soon, we will be able to move some of Sally's furnishings into the Children's library, put her children's books along with other Los Mangos children's books on the brand new bookshelves along with a few other last minute touches and Viola! Rincon de Sally will be ready to entertain and educate local children! Watch for the grand opening to be held in conjunction with the Los Mangos anniversary event at the end of November.
At this time, Los Mangos is in dire need of book-ends! We have more books than ends! The standard, metal kind of bookends (usually come in a pair) with the metal piece that slides under the books. These are approximately $50 pesos for a pair at Office Depot/Office Max. If you would be able to donate a pair of two it would very much appreciated. Please contact me for further information.
Saturday, October 17, 2009 kicks of the "Autumn Concert Series" with the first concert being held at Biblioteca Los Mangos at 7 pm. This concert will feature a soothing violin and piano recital with Daniel Juarez Armenta performing on the violin and Alejandro Villareal on piano. A wonderful beginning to fall and the high season. There is no entrance fee.
