Puerto Vallarta - To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar, a hysterically funny comedy starring Patrick Swayze, Wesley Snipes and John Leguizamo as 3 fabulous female impersonators traveling across the country to attend the Miss Drag USA Pageant in California, will be playing at the SETAC (GBLT Community Center) at Constitution #427 in the Zona Romantica on Tuesday, October 27th at 7:30 pm. Admission is free.
Released in 1995, To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar is the story of 2 fabulous drag queens, Vida Boheme (Patrick Swayze) and Noxeema Jackson (Wesley Snipes) who tie for the NY title and win an all-expense-paid trip to California. Vida takes pity on Chi-Chi Rodriguez (John Leguizamo), a little latin boy in drag, after she fails to win the competition and invites her on the trip as well.
Since they can no longer afford to fly all 3 of them, they trade the 2 airline tickets for a fabulous convertible and decide to drive to the Left, err, West Coast. Inevitably, the car breaks down in the middle of nowhere and they are left to mingle with the locals.
In times when homophobia is unfortunately still rampant, it's simply wonderful to witness how a small town can shed its prejudices and accept the beauty in all of us, regardless of race, gender or sexual orientation. To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar is a classic that every one should see.
