Just before midnight, Mayor Francisco Javier Bravo Carbajal stood on the balcony of City Hall, rang a bell and read the traditional "El Grito" speech first uttered by Miguel Hidalgo y Costillo, a Roman Catholic Priest, who incited the people to rebel against Spanish colonial rule in 1810. The mayor then led the people in the traditional midnight "Viva! Mexico!" rallying cry.
The evening finished with fireworks, Mariachis, dancing in the streets and the consumption of serious quantities of tequila. SF Productions TV was there to film all the action, and Spotlight on Vallarta host Kori Rayburn snagged an interview with the mayor and several revelers.
