Sayulita, Mexico: Save on Surfing and Yoga Retreats Susan Derby - Los Angeles Times go to original January 16, 2010
Tired of all of the New Year’s-resolution crowds elbowing you in your yoga class? Those newly motivated surfers taking that wave once woven with your name? Then head south for tranquillity, exercise and a good vacation.
In Sayulita, Mexico, about 45 minutes north of Puerto Vallarta, retreats centered around both yoga and surfing are available—and at a discount if you book by Jan. 20.
Deal: Vacation provider Via Yoga is offering $300 off of its six-night retreats this year, starting Jan. 25. Most packages feature a daily one-hour surf lesson, two daily 90-minute yoga classes, a one-hour massage, daily breakfast buffet, three group dinners, a boat trip with snorkeling at Punta Mita (with lunch included), and round-trip airport transfers from Puerto Vallarta International Airport. Some of the components vary by package.
Lodging is at Villa Amor, rated generally positively among TripAdvisor travelers. Booked directly through the hotel, units cost from $110 to $750 per night (pretax).
When booking a Via Yoga retreat, you can choose among various types of villas and also private versus shared space. The $300 off is applicable only to the general rate; it cannot be applied to the “90-day prepay” rate or any other discount. You’ll see, by looking at the rates on the site, that $2,295 per person (including taxes, but not airfare) is the lowest price you’ll get for a surfing-and-yoga retreat with this discount, if you’re willing to share a bedroom and bathroom with another guest (units also have common living and kitchen areas).
To start the booking process, you can fill out a “pre-registration” form online, but probably the most efficient way to make a reservation, and get any questions answered, is to call Via Yoga directly.
