Teatro Vallarta to Debut with Fandango Mark de Leon - PVNN February 18, 2010
At a press conference held on February 18, Manuel Diaz Preciado, the director and mastermind of the new Teatro Vallarta y Galería de Arte Colunga, announced that this ultra-modern theater will make its debut on March 6th with a spectacular musical performance called Fandango.
A creative interpretation of today's vanguard Mexico, Fandango is a state-of-the-art show that employs multimedia along with sensational performances by 15 musicians and 30 dancers in an entertaining interpretation of the warmth, colors and flavors of contemporary Mexico.
By way of 12 acts that express the values, culture and customs of this fascinating country in a thousand ways - through graceful dance movements, music and colors - Fandango takes you on a historic journey that starts with pre-hispanic myths and Tastoanes, a traditional masked performed by Mexico's native Indians, to the origins of Tequila and Mariachi, to today's contemporary plastic arts movement.
An important part of the Fandango production is the participation of Alejandro Colunga, a legendary artist and personality who's work in the plastic arts scene embodies Mexico's artistic and cultural life, which can also be seen in the theater's in-house art gallery.
Located in the center of Puerto Vallarta, Teatro Vallarta y Galería de Arte Colunga has the capacity to accommodate 960 people, almost the same capacity as the Teatro Degollado in Guadalajara.
Incorporating the latest technology in lighting, audio and theater mechanics, El Teatro Vallarta's stage measures 24.6 by 8.9 meters with an impressive 10.5 x 4 meter LED display in the background. The theater also boasts 960 comfortable seats, all with excellent views of the stage, wheelchair access, luxurious dressing and rehearsal rooms, and integrated communication systems throughout the facility.
