Over $250,000 Pesos Raised for Los Mangos

Once again, the Puerto Vallarta community demonstrated its enormous heart with a record attendance at the annual Subasta (auction) for Biblioteca Los Mangos on January 29, 2010. Not only record attendance, but record funds raised! A tad more than $250,000 pesos!
Dedicated volunteers planned and organized the yearly event, bringing new enthusiasm along with fresh ideas. The evening included raffle prizes, silent auction, fixed price items, live auction, terrific entertainment and astonishing food! The sculptured fruit pieces were truly unbelievable!
Biblioteca Los Mangos is not only a library - it is a true cultural center offering a vast array of classes, lectures, movies, music and other events for the public. Sally's Corner (Children's Library) is up and running with weekly programs for the children of the area. Recent tough economic times have presented a huge strain on finances for Los Mangos. Thanks to the outpouring of support at this event, the library can breathe a bit, at least for a few months!
There are so many people to thank that it would be impossible to cover them all here! A special thank you to Bubba Gump, Instituto Gastronomico Franco Mexicano and Joanna Grau for the delicious food. To Sebastian Mendizabel from Punta Natura for the tequila and wine. To Carl and Irene Johnson who took the reins this year and headed up the organizing of the event.
To each and every business, artist and individual who donated items for the auctions and raffles. To the people who registered guests to the ladies who worked the sales of the fixed priced items. To the raffle ticket sellers. To auctioneers Maria J. Zorilla and Gary Thompson.
And a very special round of applause to Ricardo Murrieta and his hard-working library staff!
But most of all a deep expression of gratitude to one and all who attended the event. Biblioteca Los Mangos belongs to the local community, and is able to continue because of the community!
