Author and part-time Vallarta resident Fran Gendlin's new book, 'Paris, Moi, and the Gang, A Memoir of Sorts' is available on amazon.com.
Good, reliable, talented persons here make us feel good. Hank and Conrad's lunch opening at Cafe Bohemio drew the masses. We were there at 11:30 am, and every table was filled, with persons waiting. It was even more busy later on.

Businessmen Hank (hospital department manager) and Conrad (banking) moved here in 1993 and opened La Fonda Chiles in 1995 (Coco's is there now). The restaurant was very popular. They sold it three years ago, missed it all, and now are at Cafe Bohemio for lunch, 11 am - 3 pm. Hank and Conrad just celebrated 27 years of being together.

Don and Rhonda and performers impressed us with their talents and skills with Katmandu's sitar performance at Nacho Daddy on Basilio Badillo. Fire, handled by performance artists Omar and Rocio, started the evening in dramatic fashion. Willow on guitar was outstanding. Providing background were drummer Jesus (Chuy) Estrada, and on bass guitar, Marcos Milagres. The group then turned to R&B, bringing out audience dancers. Well-known JR entertained us with his "dance steps," if that is what they were called!

Sitar concerts also will be at Cafe des Artists on February 24 and 31. Don and Rhonda perform weeknights at Marazul restaurant on the beach, and later on Friday nights at Ritmos Cafe on the south side beach. For more information, email don-rhonda(at)hotmail.com.

Author Fran Gendlin has out a new book, a fictionalized memoir, Paris, Moi, and the Gang, A Memoir of Sorts. The book is available on amazon.com, alibris.com and abebooks.com. Fran is dividing her time between Paris and Vallarta. She lived in Paris 12 years. She writes guidebooks for Culture Shock series, published by Marshal Cavendish Editions. Persons often ask her when is the best time to go to Paris? She always answers, "Any day you can get there."

U.S. Consular Agent Kelly Trainor is sponsoring a Community Network Breakfast at 9:00 am, February 19, at Chilaquiles restaurant overlooking the main plaza. Breakfast is $90 pesos. Please bring baby items to support Projecto Pitillal Busca un Amigo. For more information, click HERE or email consularagent(at)prodigy.net.mx.

The Becas Valentine Classical Concert will be at the Hotel Westin at 7:00 pm, February 12. For tickets, call Polly Vicars at (322) 223-1371.

Dishes that Frida Kahlo served on her wedding day to Diego Rivera will be featured on February 11 and 24 at Dolores Brittingham's Essence of Cuisine cooking school. For more information, call 222-7017 or email y_brittingham(at)hotmail.com.

I was shocked when a lovely young woman justified some of the alleged drug-money-purchased establishments on the Malecón, saying they provided jobs for people.

Have you seen the huge Taboo sign when going north to the area of Marina Vallarta? Huge. It should be taboo!

Simon and Schuster Vice President Adene Corns discussed the ever-changing digital publishing at the Writers Group. The new Apple I-pad was reviewed. Adene joins us periodically, and she is a thoughtful, helpful friend to us.

About eight of us who happily know each other ended up at Dr. Leslie Swindle's office at the same time. I was surprised she didn't have to come out from her patient and tell us to be quiet!

Do you know the medical field of Flebologia? It has to do with leg veins, in part anyway. Argentinian Dr. Marcelo Bialek is a personable, humorous person.

Betty Ramos, part-owner of Tiffany's hair salon, Albatros 420 in Marina Vallarta, also is designing elegant clothing, hoping to offer them in a boutique in another year.

Small format textiles are being shown at the Naval Museum on the Malecón. Stop by to see detailed hand work.

We received a note from Roswynne Cuthbert from Shawnigan Lake, BC: "I cannot believe someone would rob my dear friend, Vera Faulk. She has lived in Vallarta for more than 50 years, helping those so in need, making sandwiches to take to the dump and providing concrete floors in homes. So many people found employment in tourism because she taught them English... At 83, my dear friend deserves to feel safe and secure. Shame on the thief."

We all surely are remembering our neighbors in Haiti.
