Burgeoning Tourist Destination: Hidalgo The News go to original March 01, 2010
| Real del Monte in Hidalgo, one of several towns and attractions in the central Mexican state. | | Pachuca - Hidalgo is gradually becoming one of the most important tourist destinations in Mexico as a result of the government's arduous work regarding tourism, Gov. Miguel Angel Osorio Chong said late last week.
Our government, he said, considers tourism as a key to obtaining economic resources that would increase the income and quality of life of the state's families.
Osorio said that during his administration, different municipalities have been remodeled and updated through the renovation of historical centers and construction of highways that upgrade municipalities and attract more tourists.
Osorio added that in order to improve Hidalgo's image nationally and internationally as a top tourist destination, they developed a campaign called "Hidalgo on the skin" ("Hidalgo en la piel"), by which different popular destinations were promoted, such as the Rocks Cargadas, Apulco, Prismas Basálticos, Tolantongo's caves and Ben Gurión Park.
The state also hosted the seventh "Giro Extreme Adventure," which consisted of several sports practiced in different areas of the state, for example, Los Marmóles in the municipality of Zimapán, Valley of Mezquital and Corredor of the Mountain (including Real del Monte, Mineral del Chico, Atotonilco el Grande and Omitlán).
The Tourist Advisory Council was recently established to boost tourism. Business owners, federal and state government employees and representatives of the Congress form the council; their task is to promote a constant development in competitive levels and productivity of tourist enterprises' services.
Osorio said that the achievements attained in tourism are significant to the state's development, since Hidalgo hosted the XVII National Congress for the Tourist Legislative Commissions Council (CONLETUR). "We were recognized for our commitment to improving tourist activity and the exploitation of our natural resources and cultural heritage, which turns Hidalgo into an attractive destination for national and international tourists," he said.
Osorio said that his administration would continue to work on boosting tourism since it brings better growth opportunities to Hidalgo's families. |
