Following the very successful concert "Orchestral Fantasies" performed on May 15 by the Guadalajara Youth Symphony Orchestra, we're in for another treat by this very exciting ensemble. Once again this initiative is spearheaded by Via Cultural, an organization sponsored by Villa Premiere Hotel & Spa and supported by Vallarta's school board education authorities and by La Biblioteca Los Mangos.

A second concert, "Mexico and its Sounds", will take place Saturday, June 19, 2010 at 8:30 pm, at La Plaza de la Hermandad, situated on the beach end of San Salvador street, between Buenaventura Grand Hotel & Spa and Villa Premiere Hotel & Spa, off Calle México. Admission is free.

Given that this year we also celebrate Mexico's 200th anniversary, it is most appropriate that he music of this event should celebrate the rich sounds of Mexico. Barring program changes we will listen to Mexican classics such as the renowned composer José P. Moncayo's "Huapango", the "Conga del Fuego" by Arturo Marques and a series of other traditional Mexican melodies, not to mention the "Suite for Mariachi and Orchestra" by the Guadalajara Youth Symphony's very own conductor, the talented Miguel Almaguer.

This concert will again be preceded by a preparatory workshop open to the public at large held one day earlier in the Sala Benefactores of the Biblioteca Los Mangos (Av. Francisco Villa 1001, Col. Versalles) on Friday, June 18, 2010 at 6:00 pm.

Composer and director Miguel Almaguer will speak about Mexico's composers ("Autores de México") and, given Almaguer's speaking talent and the Youth Symphony Orchestra's live sound illustrations, this event promises to be as informative as entertaining.

The Guadalajara Youth Symphony Orchestra is one of the most important cultural institutions of Jalisco. Established five years ago, it aims at training young musicians and educating new segments of the public.

Its base of 40 Jalisco students is supplemented by over 90 young musicians from various states of Mexico, associated through exchanges and joint sessions, thus forming the largest non-governmental music network of the country.

The Orchestra has performed anywhere from the smallest stages of rural Jalisco and Nayarit to the most important venues of Mexico, Ecuador and Europe. Barely two years in its life, in 2007 it has toured France and Belgium, where it obtained the First Prize "Cum Laude" at the European Festival of Youth in Neerpelt, Belgium.

The Guadalajara Youth Symphony Orchestra, which has received well known international soloists and conductors, renews itself with innovative programming and a fresh attitude to classical music. It is structured as a non-profit organization, presided by Giselda Rea Signoret, a well known multi-talented artist and cultural educator and activist.

We look forward to seeing you all at these special events and together witness once again what our community does to promote culture and education in our beautiful Vallarta!
