The Careyes (Splendid Market)
Summer is coming to us all (they say) and when it arrives, wouldn't it be nice to be ready to enjoy the pleasures it brings? Though it is cold and grey in the northwest - we enjoyed a lovely taste of sunshine this past weekend south of the border, down Mexico way, which got me thinking about the days of sunshine to come.

Casa Mi Ojo in The Careyes, located between Puerto Vallarta and Mazatlan in Mexico presents a relaxing situation. While there, I couldn't help but noticed many of the details which made it especially pleasant.

This weekend was a special celebration with dear friends and for that Mi Ojo provided an idyllic background. The house is stunning and sizable, to be sure, but there were details which could be implemented to lend a warm, relaxing setting to any home.

I immediately loved the home because it was painted in classic blue and white, my favorite color combination, complimented with shades of weathered grey, and bright, tropical flowers.

Just one room in a home with this blue and white color scheme can give a home that breezy, beachy feel.

The natural, primitive accents to the home created an environment which blended the architecture with the surrounding environment.

Of course, the expansive blue sky and seas made the whole scene unbelievably entrancing. The number of cozy nooks and platforms on which one could perch made it impossible not to relax.

Granted, this house is on an amazing setting, but really, by combining shades of blue and white, some simple covers (these are covered with weatherproof Sunbrella fabric, available for great prices at the catalog Sailrite, I believe this color is canvas taupe), cotton throw pillows and a few natural accents, this look and feel could be reinterpreted most anywhere.

Look at this cool sitting area down at the beach, with same taupe canvas Sunbrella fabric, but with striped turquoise colored cushions. This taupe color is a great neutral - we have it on the outdoor furniture at the market topped with orange cushions.

Maybe the house color was influenced by the some of the things we found on the beach.

Careyes is known for the many artists who live in the community and help to create the unique the beauty of the homes.

Small stones were used to make mosaics and designs throughout - the lines on this patio are made of shiny, black stones layed sideways.

Must unpack, adios!
