Who says things are slow, and that there is not much going on in Vallarta at this time of year? Full proof that this is NOT the case was evident on Saturday, June 26th, when a large number of local residents and visitors stepped out to enjoy a fabulous FUNdraising event in support of Puerto Vallarta's Public Library, Biblioteca Los Mangos.

The event venue was the stunning Villa Leonarda in Gringo Gulch. Owner Sergio Toleando and his staff worked and sweated out the entire day preparing the gorgeous garden area for the arrival of the guests. A separate room with a "tienda" was set up offering various goodies including clothing, jewelry, artwork and books at great prices. Comments of "Wow! Look what I bought!" were heard throughout the crowd.

A wide variety of food was available along with thirst-quenching beverages. Restaurants No Way Jose, Barcelona Tapas and Chilaquiles offered a wide variety of delectable items. The Xocodiva ladies were one of the more popular tables with their sinfully delicious chocolates. Music provided by Los Frijoleros added to the success of the evening.

Ricardo Murrieta and his staff from Biblioteca Los Mangos, along with numerous volunteers, kept things running smoothly from table set-ups to ticket sales.

Word has it that the dancing continued in to the wee hours of the morning!

This extraordinary event once again shows us all what a wonderful and cohesive community Puerto Vallarta is not just in the "high season," but at all times of the year.

Everyone involved at Los Mangos Library is so very appreciative for this support! The library is not "just a place for books," but a true community cultural center.

On a personal note, several folks at the event asked me why I have chosen Los Mangos as my focus as a charity. Simply put, I know that by focusing on the library, these efforts trickle down to my own grandchildren who are here in Puerto Vallarta.

As well, as with many, I have special and very fond memories of spending time as a child in the local library where I lived growing up. It was a magical place that could take me to wherever I wanted to go by reading.

A huge thank you to each and every person who assisted, donated and participated in this event. It could not have happened without you!

And a special thank you to Oscar Alberto Cabrera for providing the memorable photos!
