Greek Specialties at Kaiser Maximilian PVNN July 22, 2010
This summer, in addition to the traditional Austrian cuisine that has made Kaiser Maximilian one of Puerto Vallarta's favorite restaurants, Owner / Chef Andreas Rupprechter is bringing back his special menu featuring dishes from Greece.
A few years ago, Chef Rupprechter decided to feature Greek food because he has relatives in Greece, visits often, and was eager to share this interesting cuisine with his restaurant patrons. Since then, his Greek summer specials have become so popular that it has become an annual event - and this year he's bringing them back by popular demand from July 23rd through August 31st.
Appetizers include the traditional Greek salad, Horiatiki, with diced cucumber, tomato, red onion, feta and calamata olives is tossed with extra virgin olive oil. Another super starter, Spanakopita y Tiropita, translates to phyllo dough layered with spinach, eggplant and feta.
Simmering entrée choices include, Moussaka, eggplant and ground beef topped with melted cheese and Bechamel sauce; Souvlaki, skewered and grilled chicken, bell peppers, onions and tomato served with seasoned green rice and a yellow chili stuffed with goat cheese; and the Gyro, sautéed beef, onions, mushrooms, and peppers, served with grilled pita bread and Tzatziki, which is a yogurt, cucumber and garlic sauce.
Baklava, phyllo pastry layered with nuts and honey, adds the perfect finishing touch to the special Greek menu, so stop by Kaiser Maximilian and celebrate the end of summer with some less expensive and lighter fare.
And don't forget, in September, Kaiser Maximilian always celebrates El Mes de la Patria by serving up traditional Mexican dishes. Open Monday-Saturday from 8 am to 11 pm for breakfast, lunch and dinner, Kaiser Maximilian Restaurant & Cafe is located at Olas Altas #38B in the Zona Romántica of Puerto Vallarta.
