Top of the list of all-inclusives is Dreams Resort located in eight destinations throughout Mexico. I visited this property in Puerto Vallarta, and was impressed by the private beach, gated facility, excellent food and areas designated for adults and children.
Do not pass up this article based on the negative news we have heard about Mexico in the media. To the contrary, Mexico is a safe destination.

Are there places you do not want to go in Mexico? Absolutely! Are there places you would not want to go in Los Angeles, Oakland or San Jose? Absolutely! As with traveling anywhere in the world, common sense must prevail, and one must not wander into undesirable locations.

Granted, we will not send someone to the border towns for vacation. Remember that "common sense" thing? Besides, those are not vacation spots anyway.

However, the resort towns of Cancun, Playa del Carmen, Cozumel, Puerto Vallarta, Cabo San Lucas, Mazatlan and many others are safe and offer a lot of bang for the buck for those on a vacation budget. The bang for the buck comes from the all-inclusive resorts.

For those of us on the west coast who want to maximize time at their destination, the western resorts of Cabo, Mazatlan, Puerto Vallarta and Acapulco are the desired destinations. Non-stop fights out of Los Angeles or San Francisco will get you to these cities in four hours or less.

For those who desire white sandy beaches, snorkeling and scuba diving and visiting Mayan ruins, Cancun, Cozumel and the Riviera Maya are the resort towns of choice. Travel times are longer as one must fly through Dallas or Houston.

Having toured numerous properties in Puerto Vallarta and Mazatlan, I will focus on the all-inclusive resorts we recommend to clients. Sister properties exist in all resort towns.

One must be careful in choosing certain resorts. Many offer what is called a "European Plan." This is where meals and drinks are not included in the resort price. You pay as you go and the result most likely will be more costly. You want to find a resort where meals and drinks are included. The only time all-inclusives charge for alcohol is when specialty drinks require premium brands.

Consequently, if you like to eat to your heart's content and enjoy sipping margaritas all day or quenching your thirst with a local brew, the value becomes quite apparent.

The properties I am about to recommend are quality properties, not budget places. Budget resorts are basic and do not offer the amenities provided at the more upscale resorts. For some that may be perfect.

Next on the list are the Barcel- properties located in Puerto Vallarta, Los Cabos, Manzanillo and Riviera Maya. Rooms are spacious, located on pristine beaches, with huge pools and swim-up bars, plus state-of-the-art exercise and spa facilities.

My personal favorite and first choice are the Villa del Palmar/Estancia resorts. Rooms with spacious private balconies and luxurious accommodations will spoil the vacationer.

Pools are so pristine with a natural setting that one will think they have died and gone to heaven. Food quality is the best of all the resorts I visited.

We have sent clients to Villa del Palmar in Riviera Nayarit, and they went back the following year. Repeat business is a testament in itself. The Villa resorts are located in Puerto Vallarta and Los Cabos.

For the younger set that wants a constant party atmosphere, the Riu series offers plenty of fun in the sun and activities well into the night. Located in Cancun, Los Cabos, Mazatlan, Puerto Vallarta and Playa del Carmen, these properties will keep you busy.

Want to get away from your resort? There is plenty to do - from golf to deep sea fishing, shopping in local markets, parasailing, scuba diving or visiting a Hollywood movie set.

A Mexico all-inclusive will be an affordable and pleasurable getaway for the budget conscious traveler.
