Michoacán to Host Mexican Orchid Festival PVNN August 02, 2010
| The Orquidario of Morelia, an orchid museum houses approximately 3400 species of orchids in its 3 greenhouses. | | The beautiful city of Morelia in the state of Michoacán, Mexico (in central Mexico, midway between Mexico City and Guadalajara) will host the First Mexican Orchid Festival on October 1, 2, and 3, 2010.
Mexico is home to over 1,200 native orchids, and has ideal growing conditions for most of the orchids that can be found in the world. This first orchid festival will be attended by orchid enthusiasts from around the world as well as a large number of providers of orchids, supplies, related materials and services.
In addition to visiting the Festival, visitors can see the Orquidario of Morelia, an orchid museum which houses approximately 3400 species of orchids in its 3 greenhouses. The city has over 1000 buildings of historical value, some dating back to the 16th century. The historic center of the City of Morelia is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
In association with the Vallarta Botanical Gardens, the Vallarta Orchid Society will be coordinating transportation to Morelia from Puerto Vallarta, as well as arranging tours of Morelia and nearby towns.
