Animal Protection Groups in Vallarta

Just a small example of the cruelty that some humans can inflict on innocent animals.
We are all aware that there are no animal protection laws in most of the world. This doesn´t mean that human beings can torture animals at their leisure. But they do in Puerto Vallarta. That is how they, themselves, become beasts.

On Sunday, September 12, there was an appalling incident in a well known South Shore restaurant that caters to tourists (many of them animal lovers). The photos are just a small example of the cruelty that some humans can inflict on innocent animals. This is unacceptable. The kitty, who was tortured with hot grease in a restaurant kitchen, was lucky to be rescued. Countless others were not.

In our area, several associations like the SPCA, PEACE and other privately funded smaller ventures, have strived to help and educate local people about the proper treatment of animals. These organizations offer free clinics year round to spay and neuter pets - at no cost.

Why do people insist on not taking care of this important matter and look the other way? I wish I had the answer. They become barbarians when their pets give birth to unwanted cats or dogs and the result is often the painful destruction of young animals with no concern for their suffering.

I know we have a lot to worry about in our city now that it has grown so rapidly. Welcome to reality: animals, especially homeless dogs and cats, are now a huge problem in our communities. We must call attention to these animal rights issues and press harder than ever for the city to respond. We need a municipal campaign for animal rights that will promote regulations to protect animals from the real "beasts" in our area: the people who treat innocent animals as if they deserved to suffer.

If you are interested in becoming part of the animal protection group being formed in our area for both Jalisco and Nayarit, please contact Tere Kimball at terele11(at)yahoo.com.
