School of Champions Back To School!
email this pageprint this pageemail usArt Fumerton - PVNN
September 24, 2010

Students line up at the entrance to the School of Champions for the start of the fall semester.
Our successful educational projects resumed this week on Monday, September 20th, providing food to over 1,500 children in the public primary schools and kindergartens around the dump and after-school classes in English, math and computer skills for more than 300 students at the School of Champions, in Magisterio and Volcanes. We are all very happy to welcome the kids back after the summer break.

HOW YOU CAN HELP:

Sponsor a Teacher Campaign

In order to provide staffing at the School of Champions, we rely on dedicated volunteer teachers to implement our detailed daily curricula. While some of these volunteers are able to support themselves for the entire school year, some require help in the form of room and board if they are to commit to more than a couple of weeks at the school.

It is our intention to provide room and board for around 6 volunteer teachers this year, in order to provide continuity for our students. We piloted this approach last year with two volunteers, and they proved to be of enormous benefit to the project.

We have been able to rent a large teachers' residence but also need funds to provide a small monthly food allowance to those volunteers who would not be able to finance their stay without it. $300 USD will cover the cost of a teacher's room and board for one month and enable them to volunteer for a cause they believe in.

Please help us with this program. These teachers will make a huge difference in the progress of the children as they continue in school and march towards their dream. Education is the key to their future prosperity, and we would not be able to offer them this opportunity without the generous help of our supporters. If you cannot dedicate your own time to help improve the lives of the children of Mexico, you can contribute by providing the means for someone else to do so on your behalf.

About the Feed the Children Vallarta (formerly Children of the Dump)

Feed the Children was founded in 1998, originally as Desayunos Para Los Niños de Vallarta, a Mexican non profit, tax exempt corporation. Through private donations, the program feeds more than 1,500 children daily in 5 primary schools around the dump, operates nine day care centers and an after-school program for 300 students in grades 3 through 6, teaching them English, math and computing. The goal of the Feed the Children Vallarta is to ensure education through grade nine and to educate the children of Puerto Vallarta in the skills necessary to rise above poverty.
