The Mexican Tourism Board was created to coordinate, to design and to operate domestic and international strategies for the promotion of tourism, as well as the great number of destinations and activities that Mexico offers in terms of nature and culture. Go to www.visitmexico.com
Mexico City – The Tourism Secretary, Gloria Guevara Manzo, said that Mexico’s promotion campaign abroad has been successful and is the result of an effort “that was not rushed or done in secrecy.”

In an interview, Guevara said that the strategy to promote Mexico as a tourist destination has been fruitful, as it has received international awards and has increased the arrival of tourists by 19 percent. She stressed the importance of strengthening the tourist sector, creating a positive image for Mexico, internally and abroad.

She then added that teamwork is the only way to guarantee sound development. Regarding recent statements of businesspeople in the tourist sector, who criticized the campaign, promoted by the Mexican Tourist Promotion Council (CPTM), Guevara said that it was the CPTM Board of Directors that approved the campaign. She said that the “Mexico” brand is the most important thing the country has, and asked officials from all levels of government, businesspeople, teachers and the media to promote it.

She claimed that the administration of U.S. President Barack Obama has just created a tourism department based on the model of the CPTM.

It cost $200 million U.S. and will be in charge of promoting the “USA” brand, said Guevara, adding that this is evidence “we are doing things right.” Guevara recalled that Mexico’s promotion campaign abroad was based on an analysis conducted by an important international agency, which analyzed the opinion of 680,000 consumers.
