Fundraising Matinee Concert for La Biblioteca Los Mangos Cecile Scriban - PVNN November 17, 2010
| Tickets are available at La Biblioteca Los Mangos, Hotel Villa Premiere, Hotel Galería Belmar and at Saturday's Farmers' Market on Calle Pulpito. | | A cornerstone of Vallarta's culture, Biblioteca Los Mangos, needs your help. A non-profit organization receiving scant support from government agencies, the Library stretches its pennies to provide much needed services to the community – not only a large selection of Spanish and English language books and a spacious reading room, but also internet access, ballet classes and music education programs to Vallarta's children. If there ever was a need for your generous support, now is the time!
This fund raising event will feature a Matinee Concert this Sunday, November 21, 2010 at 12:00 noon at the Teatro Vallarta, devoted entirely to the known and lesser known works of Mexican composer José Pablo Moncayo. In fact, most of these works are "rediscoveries" which have been competently transcribed by the young composer Miguel Almaguer.
Once again, with the dynamic initiative and generous sponsorship of Via Cultural, the Youth Orchestra of Guadalajara, which has performed to several packed venues here in Vallarta during this summer will again be playing under the capable baton of South African-born guest conductor, Graham Lea-Cox, who studied in England, conducted in Europe and the USA and specializes in the interpretations of lesser known composers.
Now, Moncayo may not be a household name, but he is one of the most widely played Mexican composers around the world! Yes, remember that beloved sunny "mariachi" tune characterizing entirely the Mexican spirit? Well that's definitely Moncayo's unique Huapango!
This, in fact, is how the renowned Mexican conductor, educator and author Dr. Armando Torres-Chibrás, who has recently written an authoritative book about Moncayo (José Pablo Moncayo: Mexico's Musical Crest,) describes about his impact:
"Over the last few years, the presence of the Mexican composer José Pablo Moncayo has increased exponentially, launching his name beyond regional borders onto the international stage. This phenomenon parallels the growth of an awareness of the achievements of the National Network of Youth and Children's Orchestras of Venezuela (...directed by Gustavo Dudamel ...who, in turn, is) championing Moncayo’s Huapango worldwide."
The following concert program promises to be an exciting musical evening indeed!
• Tierra de Temporal - Ballet
• Sinfonieta
• Cumbres - symphonic poem little performed since it was composed on November 20, 1953, exactly 57 years and one day ago!
• Amatzinac – chamber music
• Homenaje a Cervantes - chamber music
• Bosques – symphonic poem
• Huapango
Tickets prices are $200 for adults and $100 for children and students with credentials, on sale at La Biblioteca Los Mangos, the Hotel Villa Premiere, Hotel Galería Belmar and at Saturday's Farmers' Market on Calle Pulpito. |
