Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - Adriana Quinto, choreographer and dancer, arrived to PV five years ago after studying dance and Choreography in Mexico and Germany. FridaShow is the result of Adriana's and her students' work, and it has been running on Tuesdays at 8 pm for the last few weeks at Teatro Vallarta.
Adriana, as many other artists, realized there is so much talent in Mexico, and she made a commitment to get people closer to the arts, to dance in particular, as she believes that arts and culture are very important in people's lives, and also a tool to improve inner knowledge, as they make us more sensitive to other forms of art and expression.
As a professional dancer, she knows that in Mexico it is very hard to have a promissory career in the arts. Most creators end up going to Europe, USA, or Canada to give a boost to their careers, which leads to underemployment and so many other hardships in order to fulfill their artistic dreams.
That is the reason behind her plans to create a very much needed Puerto Vallarta University of Arts. Adriana proposed her plan to Universidad de Guadalajara, and now she has a place for her classes, although the project is not finished yet.
Little by little, and with lots of effort, Adriana is giving shape to her ideas and has been able to produce Fridashow, a performance that includes dance, music, and painting, inspired in the life of Frida Kahlo, the Mexican woman painter that has become an icon of love, passion and art all over the world. Although for now it seems that the last show of this play will be Tuesday, April 12th, Adriana is hoping to get enough support to show it for a longer period as she works on her second production. The play is a wonderful display of her talents as a choreographer, dancer and teacher, since some of the dancers are her students, young people with lots of talent.
The music deserves a special mention, local talents Esau Galvan, a young guitarist from La Cruz de Huanacaxtle, Silvia Basurto, Paolo Uccelli, and singer Perla Alarcon are an extraordinary contribution to the play. They perform live and the selection of songs is a sweet introduction to Mexican music with a taste of Flamenco.
