Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - A Day Without a Mexican, the 11th in a 13-part film series sponsored by Democrats Abroad is playing on May 1, 2011 at 7 pm at the Boutique Theatre located at Manuel Diequez #321, near the corner of Constitution.
The premise shows what would happen to California if suddenly one-third of its population, Mexicans, disappeared. The obvious consequences could be dismissed as farcical. But the meaning is made quite real in ways personal as well as economic and political.
The story focuses on a young journalist's attempt to document the disappearances. The most remarkable thing about this movie is that it casts a bright light on often deliberately overlooked aspects of the uneasy relationship between Mexico and the USA. Instead, infectious humor informs a border-defying humanity.
