La Cruz de Huanacaxtle, Nayarit - The public will enjoy watching competitors on April 9 from the beach next to Marina Riviera Nayarit at La Cruz de Huanacaxtle, which will host an important competition that will gather some of the most important swimmers in Mexico: the Aguas Abiertas Riviera Nayarit 2011 Nadoseguro.
Three and 5-kilometer races will put the resistance of participants to the test, and there will be a triangular, 500 m. route for the 10-year-old category and a 1.25 km. for categories of 11 and older. These circuits will be visible from the beach and the final stretch will allow spectators to see winners from each category while they cross the finish line.
Ivan Lopez and Rodrigo Elorza will be among the 300 competitors. Both participated last October at the World Cup of this specialty in Hong Kong. Manuel Chiu, the best-ranked Mexican at the Swimming World Championship in Rome at the 25-kilometer race in open waters might also be a contender. Alejandro Moreno, world champion in open waters will participate in the Master category.
The competitions will be regulated by the International Swimming Federation (Fina) and by the Mexican Swimming Federation (FMN), and will be overseen by judges from these institutions. Even though the event is not a qualifier for the international ranking, it will serve as a preparatory event for many competitors towards the National Olympics.
Belin Villasante from the organizing committee and Pedro Moran, vice-president of Aguas Abiertas from the Nayarit's Swimming Association (ANEN) highlighted the importance of this event in the preparation of swimmers towards the National Olympics and other international events slated for 2011.
Rafael Alcantar, harbor master from Marina Riviera Nayarit said that the facilities and first class infrastructure offered by this venue will make this competition attractive not only for the swimmers throughout Mexico, but also for spectators, who will be able to enjoy the event at no cost.
