Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - On June 9, SETAC, along with thirteen other Puerto Vallarta non-profit organizations including Asilo San Juan Diego, Casa Infantil Mojoneras, Biblioteca Los Mangos, Guerreros Contra las Adicciones and Pasitos de Luz, received the first part of the funds obtained by the Philanthropy Vallarta program last January.
The H. Ayuntamiento Municipal de Puerto Vallarta is allocating the total of $1,500,000 pesos to the fourteen institutions that were chosen to be part of the Philanthropy Vallarta program.
Mayor Salvador Gonzalez Resendiz, who presented the respective checks, said, "We will support programs like these that involve finding solutions to social problems and achieving a better quality of life for the people of Vallarta."
After receiving their stipend, SETAC Director Paco Arjona commented, "The thing about recognitions like this is that associations feel supported and committed to continue working for the common benefit. Very soon we will begin a very ambitious project, where the GLBT community will provide very important services to the community of Puerto Vallarta."
The Filantropia Vallarta program will continue to improve with the goal of obtaining a greater amount of resources to benefit more non-profit associations in Puerto Vallarta.
The purpose of the SETAC Puerto Vallarta Gay, Lesbian Bisexual and Transgender (GLBT) Community Center, located at Constitucion #427 on the corner of Manuel Dieguez, is to provide essential services to the GLBT community, including support in recovery from alcoholism and other afflictions, physical and mental health treatment and referrals, education and recreation in an atmosphere of safety, free from discrimination.
