Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - Ignacio Guzman Garcia, chairman of the Committee on Tourism, broke the news yesterday that Vallarta artists' works will be on display for one year at the National Museum of Tokyo, Japan.

He said the relationship between Mexico and Japan is underway for the joint promotion of tourist destinations, which also reflects the upcoming Tianguis to be held from March 25 to 28, 2012 at the Puerto Vallarta International Convention Center.

Guzmán García said that following their visit to the Banderas Bay region, the Japanese artists who presented their works at Vallarta's convention center during the Art in Japanese Hands Exhibition last July, reciprocated with the invitation to send works by Puerto Vallarta artists to the National Museum of Japan in Tokyo.

The works of 10 local artists will be presented for 3 days in the last week of January 2012, after which a number of works will be selected for display for one year at the National Museum.

Works to be submitted will be selected on October 31, 2011. The theme of the exhibition is the fact that Puerto Vallarta is hosting Mexico's largest tourism expo, the 2012 Tianguis Turistico, at the International Convention Center next March.

The councilman added that the House of Representatives in Congress launched an initiative to make an auction of works of art in Mexico City, the proceeds of which will go to Japan to assist those made homeless by the tsunami in Fukushima.
