Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - Fishing and golfing enthusiasts were welcomed with style to the 'Hook the Cure powered by IOTEC' fundraiser on October 13 to October 16, 2011, held in beautiful Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Guests enjoyed a fantastic weekend filled with fun, frolic and entertainment.

'Hook the Cure powered by IOTEC' is a catch-and-release fishing tournament held every year for the two goals of presenting guests with a fabulous weekend while receiving donations for a good cause.

In the last five years, the tournament has raked in much-needed funds for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation by offering an array of packages. Its sixth year was no different; the IGFA-qualifying event, part of the Redbone Tournament Series, generated $360,000 net for Foundation's patient care, research, education and advocacy programs.

'Hook the Cure powered by IOTEC' was sponsored by IOTEC, BJ's Restaurants, Watson Land Company, Norm Wilson & Sons, Millie and Severson, Lancaster Development, American Airlines and others. It is with the assistance of these benevolent sponsors that such a wonderful package could be offered guests. The event was chaired, once again, by Bob Huston and Jeff Jennison.

According to Huston and Jennison, $2 million NET has been generated since the tournaments inception. Cystic fibrosis is a genetic disease affecting approximately 70,000 people. A defect in the CF gene causes the body to produce abnormally thick, sticky mucus that leads to chronic, life-threatening lung infections and impairs digestion. When the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation was established in 1955, few children lived to even attend elementary school. Today because of CF Foundation-supported research, the median predicted age for people with CF is nearly 37 years.

Guests arrived in Puerto Vallarta on a lovely, warm Thursday afternoon. They were greeted at the gorgeous Villa Premiere Hotel and Spa with a glass of champagne, a soothing back massage and a Welcome to PV goodie bag, as they checked into the all-inclusive hotel.

Once the guests were sufficiently comfortable, their evening was occupied with a cocktail reception. Live entertainment from the nationally recognized Mariachi group, Joya de Mexico, thoroughly entertained the guests as they mingled. Finally, a lavish firework display ended the evening and kicked-off the weekend festivities.

On Friday, the anglers and golfers rushed off to enjoy their respective events. The anglers took to the water to revel in a world-class fishing expedition while the golfers tested their skill at the Vista Vallarta Club de Golf, one of the top golf courses in Latin America. Those guests, who opted for the spa package to relieve their tension, had a choice from an array of relaxing treatments at Villa Premiere's award-winning spa.

That Friday afternoon, anglers returned from as exhilarating day of fishing coordinated by Charter Dreams to show off their record-breaking catches and enjoyed a private concert with rising country music star, Lucas Hoge, star of Animal Planet's Last Chance Highway.

The revelry continued on Friday night with poker, blackjack and other themed games that appealed to the masses. The games also helped raise additional funds for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. The atmosphere was alive with enthusiasm as guests felt the thrill of gambling in an actual casino.

Saturday morning saw a repeat of Friday's festivities with anglers and golfers attacking their respective activities with renewed vigor. In the evening, guests attended the Awards Gala, which paid tribute to the winners of the events, offering congratulations on their success.

Ronny Wilson, Jerry Sabino and Dave Wilkinson captured the Overall Championship while Len Pieroni and Gary Ellis garnered the Largest Tuna; Wade Faerber and Marty Canales received kudos for the Most Sailfish Released and Mike and Dave Close took home the Largest Dorado accolades.

Guests had the opportunity of acquiring valuable items in the live and silent auction. Some of the items included in the auction were Business Class airfare on American Airlines to Europe, Mammoth stays, all-inclusive vacation package to Crocodile Bay Resort in Costa Rica, one-of-a-kind sports memorabilia and more.

The Gala and the auction were emceed by radio personality, Shawn Parr, of Los Angeles' GO COUNTRY 105.1FM along with sports personalities Rick Honeycutt and Matt Young. Volunteers for the events were coordinated by PVRPV.com.

The weekend concluded on Sunday afternoon, as guests left with the satisfied feeling that comes from partaking in a notable effort to change lives and spending a memorable weekend doing what they love.
