November 2, 2011

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - The Support Center for Children with Cancer (Canica A.C.) together with the Women’s Association of Vallarta are ready for the third annual campaign "Mi Amigo Sin Pelo" (My Friend with No Hair) in Puerto Vallarta, which will take place on November 27, 2011, at 3:00 pm at Los Arcos del Malecón.

This association is currently operating 19 programs to care for children with cancer and their families, helping them to have a better quality of life. They organize conferences for parents of children with cancer, educating them on how to detect signs and symptoms of cancer in children, as well as how to react and how to achieve a diagnosis.

Javier Galvan, founder and Director of Casa Canica of the Support Center for Children with Cancer, said that a lunchroom will be open soon across from the Medical Center in Guadalajara. This facility will help families financially by offering clean and nutritious food 365 days a year, as many families come from places outside Guadalajara.

The fundraiser is expected to draw the attention of more than 1000 people who will donate their hair on this day, as a sign of solidarity with the children suffering from cancer, and they also hope to collect donations of $600,000 pesos. The donations will go to the construction of a Pediatric Oncology Hospital.

This year, registration for the event is available online at MiAmigoSinPelo.org, where you can also find information on how to join and donate your hair for this noble cause.

Evelia Basáñez de Martínez, from the Womens' Association of Vallarta, invites all residents to participate in this event, where they can make a difference by supporting children in need of moving to Guadalajara to receive appropriate treatment.
