Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - It was announced today that the celebrated Russian State Ballet "Mari El" will be returning to Puerto Vallarta to performe the beloved Romeo and Juliet for one night only, in PV's beautiful performing arts venue, Teatro Vallarta.
The Russian State Ballet "Mari El" is part of the Opera and Ballet Theater Sapaev and is under the direction of Konstantin Ivanov. The soloists are winners of many important international awards and are all from the most important schools and faculties of choreographic art in Kazan, Moscow, Leningrad, Novosibirsk and Perm. Banderas Bay is fortunate to have this popular company returning to perform this romantic favorite.
Shakespeare's heart-breaking love story is brought to life with a troupe of 40 dancers, by Ivanov's inventive choreography, sumptuous costumes, and grand sets which transport you to Renaissance Verona. From the breathtaking sword-fights of the Capulets and Montagues to the spellbinding romance of the balcony scene, Moiseyev's Romeo and Juliet blazes with passion.
Romeo and Juliet is a ballet by Sergei Prokofiev based on Shakespeare's tragic love story. Prokofiev composed the music in 1935 or 1936 for the Kirov Ballet. The incredible ballet score has inspired many great choreographers to try their hand at Shakespeare's story. Many people believe that this is the greatest ballet score ever written.
