Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - Theyre back: the Peņita Players will again tread the boards in Jaltemba this March. This year the group has decided to present their evening of comedy skits in just one location to avoid having to pack up and move for each performance. The location will be at the restaurant Piņa Colada.
Selecting just one site was difficult, as there are many great locations, but the final deciding factor was that this year will include a matinee, and a rooftop was needed to keep out daylight so that light is focused on the actors.
The evenings shows will include a balance of skits from last year along with new skits; Monty Python will be on hand as well as the classic "Dinner for One." Warning: extreme laughter may bring hernias.
The acting troupe this year features seasoned thespians Dave Edwards, Vern Porter, Jeff Rogers and Marion Rogers. Making their acting debuts are Mona Cavalli and Sherri Nordin, who are sure to do even more in future with their blossoming talent.
Direction is being shared by Bob Richards, Dave, Jeff and Marion... and lots of collaboration from the rest! Costumes are being skillfully prepared by Elfreida Chick, Sydney Richmond and cast. Stage management and technical aspects are being covered by Penny Richards, Jean Bentley, Olga Porter, and Brian Richardson.
Piņa Coladas congenial host Esteban is offering an intriguing menu: on Thursday, March 15, choose between chicken or beef kabobs, on Friday, March 16 enjoy the garlic shrimp or fish filets in a sauce, and on Sunday, March 18 chicken Milanese will be served. All meals include a drink as well as veggies and rice (Sunday its spaghetti instead.) The meal selection has been limited in order to provide rapid service so that the show can start on time and to keep the price at a very reasonable $150 pesos.
The Players are requesting a $50 peso per person donation to cover production costs and the rest will be donated to the Los Amigos de Jaltemba Recycling Education sub-committee.
The doors open at 6:30 pm with meal service beginning at 7:00 pm on Thursday and Friday, and on Sunday doors open at 12:30 pm with meal service at 1:00 pm. Guests are encouraged to be prompt as meal service will end in time to have no noise during the show, which will begin at 8 pm (2 pm on Sunday.)
Reservations can be made at Piņa Colada, #15 Av. Guayabitos, the lateral west of Hwy. 200 in Guayabitos, or at Hala's Mayan Hamacas at the west end of the Ave. in La Peņita.
