Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - Good wind currents, a challenging swell, and lots of stunts is the theme for the kite surfing competitions to be held in Riviera Nayarit this March as part of the Regatta Copa México Olympic Edition 2012.
The most innovative of water sports, kitesurfing harnesses the power of the wind to propel a rider across the water in a combination of wakeboarding, windsurfing, surfing, paragliding, and gymnastics to create one extreme sport.
The competition is expected to have 50 competitors, including professionals and amateurs from over 10 countries as well as the Top 15 in the World Ranking. The 2009 World Champion, Sean Farley Gomez, the 2010 World Champion Adam Koch and the 2011 World Champion Johnny Heineken will also be competing.
The competition will begin on Saturday, March 10th and will run through the 17th and will begin with a downwind from La Cruz de Huanacaxtle to Bucerias. International kiteboard regattas will take place from Sunday the 11th to Saturday, March 17th, with at least four daily races. All races will be judged according to the International Kiteboarding Association (IKA) and the ISAF current regulations.
On Sunday and Monday, March 18th and 19th, the stunts begin with a freestyle event that will include 60 additional competitors.
Recommendations to the public:
Although the regattas take place in the open water, stunts in the freestyle category will be visible most times from the coastline on the beaches of Bucerias.
