Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - Jaimes Friedgen and Christa Rodriguez are in the top, select list of Argentine Tango instructors most sought out for both their teaching skills and their smooth, elegant dance style.
Thanks to the sponsorship of Tango Centro, they are coming to Puerto Vallarta, March 14 - April 3, to share their knowledge, skills, and beautiful spirit with new and experienced dancers here.
With weekend classes at the Hotel Rosita on the Malecon in El Centro on March 17, 18, 24, and 25, and in other locations during the week, there are ample opportunities to indulge any desire to learn this most-passionate dance.
Jaimes and Christa are known and loved across the US tango festival scene from their home in Seattle through San Francisco, Denver, Houston and on to Europe. Houston wrote of their anticipated appearance:
Jaimes is one of the most inspiring tango dancers in the United States. He is sought out for his creativity and deep insight into the inner workings of the dance. A dancer of extraordinary accomplishment, Jaimes is hailed for his beautiful movement and musicality. He is driven to be a full time tango teacher by his love of watching people continually grow and blossom through their exploration of tango, and feels very fortunate to be a part of that process. Christa is one of the most influential dancers in the city of Seattle and serves as the primary inspiration for a whole generation of dancers.
Argentine Tango is not new to Puerto Vallarta; the tango community first came together 8 years ago when aficionados Al and Barbara Garvey retired here and gathered a small following of students in order to continue pursuing their passion for the dance.
This season brought new energy and increased possibilities for a rebirth of enthusiasm and widening interest in this arguably most passionate partner dance in the world, with the arrival of Antonieta Taylor, founder of Tango Centro. With a commitment to expanding the community, extending the reach to younger dancers and enveloping the local population, as well as the expats and visitors, comes a drive to raise the level of execution - and keep it fun!
Antonieta brings her own skills as a teacher focusing on the details of technique to enable her students to execute their moves. But she also brings a valuable base of contacts and friends from across the US tango community of top maestros. Her enthusiasm for Puerto Vallarta Tango is infectious and with that she has gathered commitments to come help the community grow... first in December 2011 with Laura Pellegrino and Tomás Corbalán, who will be returning in December 2012. And this month with Jaimes and Christa.
