Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - Every Saturday from 9:30 am to 2 pm through the end of May, you'll find a wide range of freshly prepared foods, unique natural products, and handcrafted items at the Old Town Farmers' Market on the South side of Puerto Vallarta.
In keeping with the philosophy of "Make it, Bake it, Grow it," the Old Town Farmers Market- Tianguis Cultural is a "producer only" Market - all the products are made, baked, grown and sold by Vendors, all whom live within 50 kilometers of Puerto Vallarta.
Here's a sampling of what you'll find at the Old Town Farmers' Market this week...
If you love tacos, do not miss Angela Quintero of Taco Ranchero. You’ll find her serving up tempting fare within the food court of the school, at the Pino Suarez entrance. The recipes for her meats have been passed down within the family for the past 100 years, having been refined from experience at their carniceria business.
In addition to tacos you can also indulge in burritos, huaraches and quesadillas. Choose from birria, carne asada, polo or pork adobado with a variety of trimmings available, along with fresh corn tortillas and beans. You can contact Angela at lamancha90(at)hotmail.com.
Alberto Alvarez of Muy Green started out with a small restaurant in Monterey. He offers some tasty items that will enhance any meal. From Argentina, he offers Chimichurri, which is a delicious spread for steaks, fish, baked potatoes or just mixed with an avocado for a dip.
The spread is made from virgin olive oil, parsley, garlic, Serrano chili (for a bit of a bite) and herbs. Next there is Greek Tzaziki, which Alberto swears will remind you of the dishes served in Athens or the Mykonos Islands made properly with dill, as opposed to the mint used in Cyprus. Finally you will love his sweet cucumbers, Hamburg style. Everything was quite delicious. You can contact Alberto at alberto(at)alvarezfranco.com.
Stop to speak with Carlos Morlett of Sol Virgen - Sun Virgin Bio Organic and you will get quite an education on the wonderful properties of the coconut. Carlos got interested in natural, organic products back in the 70’s. At his booth you can purchase his Bio Elixir Oil (Extra Virgin Coconut Oil) which moisturizes, softens and protects, is loaded with nutrients and amino acids, and provides natural UV protection.
The plantation and manufacturing are all done in Jalisco, and they plan to open a spa/hot springs in Careyes soon. Also available at his booth you will find coconut oil, volcanic ash for facials and wraps, shredded coconut, flor de sal (spa salts) and chia. Contact Carlos at sunvirginbioorganic(at)yahoo.com or carlos(at)muchococo.com for more information.
