Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - Local sculptor Jim Demetro recently held a beginners class in sculpting at La Cuiza Art Center on Isla Cuale. The class ran from March 26 to 30.

Using a live model, each student worked with clay to sculpt the form of a man sitting with his right arm extended. With Demetro's guidance, the facial features, muscle formation, and general body structure was carefully detailed. By the end of the five day class, each student had completed a clay sculpture suitable for molding and casting in bronze.

The class, limited to seven students, was extremely well received. Demetro said such a class would likely be held next high season.

Demetro is the artist who sculpted the Vallarta Dancers, the most photographed piece along the Malecón. He also created the Washer Woman bronze that sits on the Malecón just outside of the Molino de Agua condominium complex. His work is displayed widely throughout the United States.
