Mexico City, Mexico - Sir Paul McCartney has confirmed the addition of a completely free third concert to the Mexico leg of his 2012 On The Run extravaganza to thank the Mexican fans for their continued support.
McCartney announced that the band will play a massive free concert in Mexico City at the iconic Zocalo on May 10th, two days after the show at the capital city's Azteca Stadium on the 8th. The Zocalo Center site is the main plaza in the capital city and has been a gathering place for residents since the days of the Aztecs.
The legend's 2012 tour marks his first Mexico appearances since his Up And Coming Tour in 2010. The first of that tour's shows at Mexico City's Foro Sol Stadium shattered records as 60,000 tickets were snapped up within minutes of going on sale.
Sources at Ticketmaster Mexico speculated that tickets for that show could have gone even more quickly had technology been able to keep up with overwhelming demand. The fastest-selling show in the country's history necessitated a second show be added the next day; also a sell out.
Reached for comment about the up-coming free event McCartney stated, “Thanks to the Mayor and the people of Mexico for making this beautiful site available for our show. Also thanks to the sponsors and promoters who made this possible. We’re really excited to play this one-off event – we’re ready to rock!”
Before the gig at the capital city, McCartney will bring the show to Jalisco at Guadalajara’s Omnilife Stadium on May 5th, at 9 pm. Ticket prices range from $372 to $13,200 pesos.
