Mazatlán, Mexico - Constantine Macris Obergón, coordinator of the upcoming “Tequila Expo – 2012” being held in Mazatlán, said that México’s tequila industry could become of financial importance to Sinaloa. The State of Sinaloa currently has 37,065 acres of agave under production.
According to Obergón, a group of Russian entrepreneurs are considering opening a plant to process agave nectar in the state. The processing plant would require 200 tons of agave each week.
The tequila industry generates $600 million annually for México and employs more than 55,000 individuals.
The Tequila Expo – 2012 will be held in Mazatlán at the Convention Center April 12th through the 14th and the hours are from 3 pm until 10 pm each day. The Expo will be open to the public at no charge and will include talks about the process of making tequila by Jorge Guzmán of Guadalajara, a Miss Tequila Contestant, tequila tastings, and the sales of México’s finest tequilas.
