April 16, 2012

Ajijic, Jalisco, Mexico - It is estimated that the number of foreign retirees currently residing in Mexico is over 500,000 people. Due to the climate, cost of living, relaxed lifestyle, and overall friendliness of the people, it is no wonder many choose Mexico as their retirement destination.

With baby-boomers reaching retirement age in the very near future, a handful of forward thinking Mexican organizations have emerged to meet the current and future demands of thousands of retirees that will move to Mexico in the next decade.

One of those organizations is AMAR: the Mexican Association for Retirement Communities.

The AMAR is a non-profit group focused on providing quality of life as well as quality of care for seniors retiring in Mexico. The alignment has based its mission in freedom, trust, well-being, and security for retirees making their future home in Mexico.

AMAR’s mission is to encourage the development of the senior living market and to continually improve the standards among retirement communities in Mexico. The organization acts as a bridge between the communities of expatriates in Mexico, and the bureaucrats that they must interact with, such as governmental officers at every level and providers of goods and services.

Some of the services the AMAR offers to their members include resources for:

• Legal Concerns
• Financial Issues
• Accounting
• Foreign Investment Counseling
• Real Estate Consulting
• Tourism
• Nursing & Health Care
• Medical Service
• Assisted Living Facilities in Mexico

The AMAR also hosts an annual expo/conference to connect the expatriate community with products and services to help them better take advantage of their place in Mexico. This year the convention, titled The Baby Boomers 50+ Living Show, will be held at the Hotel Real de Chapala, located in Ajijic, Jalisco, just 31 miles from Guadalajara on the shores of the beautiful Lake Chapala.

The expo will feature seminars on:
• navigating immigration
• renting or buying property
• driving and owning a car
• health and medical services
• travel
• security and banking

The convention will also include:
• an expatriate art expo
• Tequila and margarita tasting
• Mariachi music
• information on visits to various retirement communities

The expo will be held on June 8 & 9, 2012. Entrance is free and a raffle will be held. It’s also never too early to sign up online for a free Margarita at: amar.org.mx See ya there!
