Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - Nine residents of Puerto Vallarta, led by Dee Dee Camhi, President of Democrats Abroad Mexico, joined fellow ex-pats and duel citizens from all over Mexico, for their Annual Meeting in San Miguel de Allende. All were members of Democrats Abroad, the organization for members of the US Democratic Party residing in Mexico.
The US electoral season is heating up, and this election is seen by most observers as critical; not only to the future of the US, but to Mexico as well. Dee Dee, led the group through a series of meetings focusing on the organization's primary mission for "2012 - Getting Out the Vote," and ensuring that all US citizens who reside in Mexico, are aware of their right and civic obligation to register and vote.
Ms. Camhi pointed out that "it has never been easier to vote from abroad," which one can do simply by going to VoteFromAbroad.org.
The meeting was highlighted by the guest speaker, well-known populist, and Texas political figure, Jim Hightower. Mr. Hightower, former Texas Agriculture Commissioner, candidate for Governor, syndicated columnist, and radio commentator, is author of the former best seller "Thieves in High Places - They've Stolen Our Government."
Speaking to a standing room only crowd, Mr. Hightower utilized humor and his vast knowledge about state and federal government issues, to illustrate the need for citizens at all levels to be involved in ensuring that their elected government is truly representative of all of its citizens; not just a fringe element with an extreme agenda.
Anyone, of any political affiliation, who is interested in voting in the US elections from Mexico, can access all of the information necessary at the website cited above and should be aware that federal election laws require that those voting from abroad must re-register each election year no less than one month prior to the November election date.
