Guadalajara, Mexico - Aerojal, a new Guadalajara-based airline, has announced that it is set to begin operations some time in September, 2012.
The new air carrier plans to connect Guadalajara to other important or not so important cities in Mexico, that are not covered by the other existing airlines, but were covered before by Mexicana and Alma.
The airline will operate out of the Guadalajara International Airport and will start with 20 Bombardier CRJ200s, a Canadian plane with 50 seats. The regional airline will cover 20 destinations with 30 routes, the first route will be to Vallarta.
It is planned that AeroJal will connect Jalisco with the northern region of the country, without going through Mexico City, through direct flights between Guadalajara and Sonora, Chihuahua, Coahuila, and Nuevo Leon.
The airline will also fly direct routes to Veracruz, Oaxaca, and Chiapas. Their goal is to be the best way to travel by air and the one preferred by businessmen.
Company directors say Aerojal will not be a “low cost” airline but should be seen as a "regional" option. The airline will pick up some of the routes left vacant by Alma, a discount carrier that folded in 2009.
Currently, 18 people are employed by the new enterprise, but plans are to generate 600 direct jobs.
Aerojal is now in the process of obtaining the official registration given by the Communication and Transportation Secretary.
