Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - The SETAC GLBT Community Center and the Puerto Vallarta CAPASIT clinic continue to promote the "Give Milk" campaign, which is focused on helping HIV positive mothers feed their young children without the risk of infecting them with the virus.
"An increasing number of young mothers have tested positive and therefore can not breast feed their babies because breast milk transmits HIV," says SETAC Director Paco Arjona. "That is why there is a need to provide these babies with high quality powdered milk, which is very expensive for their mothers."
The general community can participate in the Give Milk campaign by donating cans of powdered milk for stages one, two and three. The preferred brand is "NAN," however, you can donate any brand of milk powder, provided it meets the required nutritional values, and in the case of step three, the formula needs to be fortified with vitamins and minerals, including iron and calcium that a growing child needs in order to grow strong and healthy.
Your donation of this most critically needed item - powdered infant formula - will ensure that the babies of HIV-positive mothers, right here in Puerto Vallarta, will grow up to be healthy children. The donation may also be supplemented with bottles and diapers.

Through their continued efforts, such as the Mother's Got Milk Project, the SETAC Community Center offers the GLBT community, along with their families and friends, a variety of services meant to improve their physical, emotional and spiritual well-being. Creating a network between members of the GLBT and non-GLBT community allows opportunities for members to experience, learn and participate in the mutual development of our common community.
The purpose of the SETAC Puerto Vallarta Gay, Lesbian Bisexual and Transgender (GLBT) Community Center, located at Constitucion #427 on the corner of Manuel Dieguez, is to provide essential services to the GLBT community, including support in recovery from alcoholism and other afflictions, physical and mental health treatment and referrals, education and recreation in an atmosphere of safety, free from discrimination.
