Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - On October 25 to 27, the city of Puerto Vallarta will host The 2nd Traditional and Popular Food Festival.
The promoters of this event are not advertising the price, but rumor has it that it will be $120 pesos general public, $80 pesos students with current school ID and kids under 12.
Participants from several Mexican states - Aguascalientes, Colima, Jalisco, Michoacan, Guanajuato, Nayarit, Querétaro, San Luis Potosi, and Zacatecas - will offer tastings and exhibitions of traditional food preparation.
This culinary event will include cook book presentations and films, along with gastronomic lectures. There will be local art presentations and live entertainment including the Xuitla Ballet, Paco Padillo, and Mariachi México Vive.
There will also be tequila tastings from local distilleries and you'll definitely want to check out the "Miss Tequila Contest!"
Most of the tastings and conferences will be in the Presidencia (City Hall) and the entertainment will be at Los Arcos. The tastings will be at 6 pm and the entertainment begins at 8 pm.
The inception of this annual event, which was held in Pitillal last year, came about following the declaration by UNESCO of Mexican food as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, and it is used to help develop strategies to preserve Mexican cultural cuisine. Due to the tremendous success of last years event it will now become a Vallarta tradition.
This scrumptious event is sponsored by CONACULTA, (the Regional Board for Arts and Culture) and the Ministry of Culture for the State of Jalisco. It is under the direction of Ignacio Cadena, President of the Puerto Vallarta Hotels and Motels Association.
