Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - The fourth annual Duckaton fundraiser, held last Wednesday at the Boana Torre Malibu condo-hotel on Los Muertos Beach, raised more than $60,000 for SETAC, the GLBT organization which hosted the event. Hundreds of local, national, and international donors and guests attended the gala event.
The Duckaton, or Duck-a-thon, is named so because of the floating ducks in the swimming pool which are raffled off during the evening and retrieved for the prize winners. This annual favorite is one of the many events planned by SETAC for 2013.
"We were extremely pleased with the turnout," said SETAC Executive Director Paco Arjona. "This is one of our main fund-raising events and alot of people worked very hard to pull everything together. We are grateful to everyone who helped and especially to our generous sponsors here in Puerto Vallarta."
With the money raised SETAC will be able to continue and increase funding for projects like: "Brigades for Life," the ongoing "Milk" campaign, and the new project called: "Fuera del Closet," or "Out of the Closet."
The evening featured live music by Mariachi "Tierra Jalisciense", DJ Antonio Arce, and the lovely Kim Kuzma. Joanna and Miss Conception also delighted the crowd with their poolside antics. Angel´s Store provided a wonderful fashion show.
The guests enjoyed a sumptuous buffet catered by Café Des Artistes, Bistro Balsamar, Le Bistro, Bubba Gump, Langostinos, Mole de Jovita, Plush Cathering, JD´s BBQ, Don Guacamole, La Piazzetta, and the famous pozole Denis from Boanna.
The highlight of the evening was the arrival of the local pool boys who splashed around in the pool and retrieved the lucky ducks for the winners. The ducks were matched to 400 prizes provided by local sponsors. Prizes ranged from dinners at Puerto Vallarta restaurants to spa visits and hotel stays. Everyone who purchased a duck won a prize.
