Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - Vallarta Yacht Club is gearing up for the International WesMex Regatta 2013, and this year it is going to be even more spectacular!
Beginning with its inaugural event in February 2006, the WesMex Regatta has earned the reputation of being the premier small boat regatta of Banderas Bay and one of the most important youth sailing events of the year. The event typically attracts competitors from all over Mexico and the world and more than two hundred boats are expected to participate this year.
Sanctioned by the Mexico Sailing Federation, this year the event has the distinct honor of being selected to be one of four "National Qualifier Regattas" for young sailors from all over the country to advance to the Junior Olympics 2013; the World Championship in Riva de Garda, Italy; and European Optimist Championships. For the Laser Class, it will be one of the qualifiers for USAF Youth Worlds Laser Radial in Cyprus, the World Championship Laser 4.7 in Hungry, and the European Championship Laser Youth Radial in Croatia.
Opening Ceremonies for the International WesMex Regatta 2013, will take place on Thursday, April 18th, and the racing begins on April 19th. Participants will enjoy three days of incredible sailing, dinners, and beach parties with the final Awards Celebration to be held on April 21st at the Paradise Village Amphitheater.
Early arrivals will be welcome to participate in the optional pre-event racing clinics and practice sessions beginning on April 14th.
