Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - Captain Douglas Allen Danielson has gone to sail on.
If you have been to Puerto Vallarta, many of you know Captain Doug as the one to call if you needed a survey and peace of mind before you left to go to sea anywhere in the world. When on delivery, he was always the one that would talk to you on the radio if you happened to be sailing anywhere near him from Panama to the coast of Canada. He knew every hiding place and shared them with everyone.
His books are fun and his blog and writings are a gift to everyone that calls the sea their home. He was an amazing Navigator and Captain - A true captain that always kept the crew calm and focused in a storm. Always thinking out of the box, with positive perseverance, he cleared many hurricanes and never lost a yacht. He untied the lines and passed away on Memorial Day, May 27, 2013, with the love of family.
For those that want to enjoy his stories and read what he has left to share, you can go to Doug-Danielson.com. If you want to pay your respects and receive information about a gathering in his honor, visit his blog, 'The Nautical Muse', and click the 'is Capt. Scuttle butt for real?' link, where you can leave a message.
Fair winds and following seas, Doug. We will miss you.
