Sayulita, Nayarit, Mexico - For several years now, Punta Sayulita has been partnering with Ocean Conservancy and its surrounding community to organize ongoing beach clean-up efforts at this sought-after surfing destination in Riviera Nayarit.
Trash in our ocean is an issue that affects wildlife, the environment and our economy. But everyone has a role that they can play in helping to keep our beaches clean.
Every year, Ocean Conservancy sponsors International Coastal Cleanup Day, a global event that mobilizes hundreds of thousands of people to take action for our ocean. This is one of the world's biggest events for clean waterways and a clean ocean. Over the past 27 years, over 9.5 million volunteers have removed almost 164 million pounds of trash from more than 330,000 miles of coastline and waterways in 153 countries and locations.
Though this year's International Coastal Cleanup is not scheduled to take place until September 21, Punta Sayulita is resuming their ongoing beach clean-up days on Saturday, September 7th.
As in past years, this is an excellent opportunity to get up close and personal with Sayulita locals, and join in their commitment to keeping their town as pristine as possible. The meeting time will be 9:30 am at the Punta Sayulita Beach House, next to Don Pedro's on the beach.
Bringing a hat, gloves, and wearing a bathing suit are highly recommended. For more information, visit SayulitaLife.com.
The International Coastal Cleanup is part of Ocean Conservancy’s larger strategy for Trash Free Seas and is one of the many ways the organization is helping find answers and solutions for marine debris. Other Ocean Conservancy-led efforts include supporting a scientific working group at the world’s leading ecological think tank, The National Center for Ecological Analysis and Synthesis (NCEAS), to identify the scope and impact of marine debris on ocean ecosystems; building a Trash Free Seas Alliance® of industry, science and conservation leaders committed to reduce waste; and launching a mobile app, Rippl, to help people make sustainable lifestyle choices that limit their trash impact.
