Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - September is theater month in Puerto Vallarta so the Vallarta Institute of Culture, led by the masterful hands of Municipal Theatre Director Fabián Alberto Sahagun and Producer/Director Edgar Treviño, will present a selection of theater works every week at the Cuale Cultural Center as part of the Fiestas Patrias celebrations.
Three theatrical works will be featured throughout the month, the first being El Cepillo de Dientes ("The Toothbrush"), a play of the absurd to be presented every Wednesday in September at 8 pm. In this hilarious masterpiece, a married couple conduct their daily ritual of a battle over breakfast. Note that this play won an award at the Encuentro de Teatro del Interior Meeting in Lagos de Moreno and first place in the Best Director category at the Estatal de Teatro awards, where Veronica Muñiz also won for Best Actress.
The second play, Como ser Gay y no Morir en el Intento ("How to be Gay and Not Die Trying") is dedicated to the homophobia of some people in the country. There are five cases of murders of homosexuals in this production, which focuses on how to survive when the eyes of society are on the subject with judgment and criticism. This work, also presented by Edgar Trevino's Raquítica Productions, will be playing on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 8 pm.
The Encuentro de Teatro winning play, Cartas al Divino Preso ("Letters to the Divine Prisoner"), created and directed by Municipal Theatre Maestro Alberto Fabián Sahagún Orozco himself, will be presented at 8 pm this Saturday and Sunday only, on the Isla Rio Cuale stage.
The Vallarta Institute of Culture invites the entire community to enjoy our local talent through these three affordable theater productions, priced from $50 to $60 pesos per person, respectively.
