Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico - With the help of No Borders Animal Rescue Society (NOBARS), Puerto Vallarta's stray dogs are becoming part of the jet set.
"I feel that every dog deserves a chance, regardless of which side of the border a dog resides," says Robin Tennis, co-founder of NOBARS. "They deserve a chance to have a home, a chance to be spoiled, a chance to be part of a family and a chance to be loved." She believes that no animal should suffer and it is her goal to do as much as she can through a network of dedicated volunteers to alleviate the suffering.
NOBARS is teaming up with Blake's Restaurant for a fund raiser, Pesos for Puppies, on Saturday, November 2, 2013 from 1 pm to 11 pm at Blake's Restaurant, located at 16G Plaza Los Glorias, in the Puerto Vallarta Hotel Zone.
This event will be a bit different because it will last all day and there are no admission tickets. 100 percent of the day's food and beverage proceeds will go to NOBARS. "The owner is such an angel," says Maggie Draper, co-founder of NOBARS, "Susan Blake, (Blake's Restaurant owner and chef) is an animal lover and she is being incredibly generous." The menu at Blake's Restaurant and Sports Bar features salads, sandwiches, seafood and steak. Susan is famous for her fish and chips; chicken cordon bleu; and filet mignon, served on a bed of fresh mushroom ragout, topped with sautéed spinach and caramelized shallots. She will also have some special menu items for the event.
Pesos for Puppies will also have a silent auction and a 50/50 ticket drawing. You will get to meet the lovely animals that you are supporting. The dogs waiting to be airborne are in area foster homes and the Centro de Acopio (animal shelter) getting healthy and ready to travel. Their journey starts in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, where they are rescued from the streets by individuals or the Acopio. From there they go into the loving hands of foster homes, where they receive medical attention and loving care, sometimes for the first time in their tender lives. They are sterilized (neutered/spayed), receive extensive parasite treatment, various blood tests, and all vaccinations.
When the rescue is ready for a new home, transportation arrangements are made to send the dog to Canada, usually Vancouver, British Columbia and Calgary or Edmonton, Alberta. These dogs are usually escorted by a vacationer leaving Puerto Vallarta. NOBARS has foster homes that continue the exceptional care for the dog while waiting to go to its forever home. NOBARS relies on volunteers for everything. NOBARS is a non-profit society fully licensed in Canada.
Please consider stopping by, getting a bite to eat and helping some of the area's homeless dogs. Robin and Maggie will be there to answer any questions. For more information, please visit nobordersanimalrescuesociety.ca, or check out the NOBARSRESCUE Facebook page.
