Chatterton's passion for these pets has propelled her to offer love-struck hotel guests an unheard of proposition: adopt a SPCA Puerto Vallarta dog or cat between January 15 and March 15 and she will provide a gift certificate for a complimentary one-night return visit. Qualified couples (or individuals, of course) can do good while feeling good - something that far exceeds the power of cupid's arrow.

After adopting a handful of her own animals, Chatterton began to see the positive potential for the city's homeless pets and founded Puerto Vallarta's first Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) chapter.

She then oversaw the fundraising and building of a shelter to house, rehabilitate and find homes for still more animals. At the state-of-the-art shelter, animals enjoy veterinary care, spacious rooms, large garden and grass areas for playing, and lots of toys and personal attention, much like guests at the Hacienda.

SPCA PV's mission is to help promote sterilization, adoption and healthcare efforts for animals in the Puerto Vallarta area, with the goal of eliminating the euthanasia of healthy and adoptable animals. Funds raised support these various goals in ways that are most feasible within the community. But placing loving animals in loving homes remains paramount.
