Riviera Nayarit Announces the San Blas Carnival

go to original
February 6, 2014

The San Blas Carnival is a very unique celebration in Nayarit thanks to its music, the parties, the parades, the costumes, and the cultural and artistic events. The event will be held from Feb. 8th - Mar. 4th

San Blas, Mexico - During a recent press conference, the Board of Directors of the San Blas Carnival announced that this year’s event will be celebrated from February 8th through March 4th.

This according to Doris Vázquez, President of the San Blas Hotel and Motel Association; she is part of the committee that is reviving the festival and is inviting everyone to its fourth edition. With over 104 years of history under its belt, the San Blas Carnival was reinstated to promote the traditions that generate tourism and culture, while at the same time stimulating the port’s economy.

This is a very unique carnival in Nayarit thanks to its music, parties, parades, costumes, and the cultural and artistic events. One of the main objectives of the Hotel and Motel Association is to promote its traditions, which also serves to stimulate the economy.

"Riviera Nayarit's CVB is a very important part of this thanks to all the promotional work it does for the state," said Doris Vázquez. "We’d love for these festivities to become the kind of tradition that lends our town its own identity."

The sponsors, tourism service providers, restaurants, educational institutions, and the media have been working to rescue this tradition with the full support of the state and municipal governments, as well as the Naval Military Zone VI.

"Our aim this year is to continue to grow and to project the Carnival, and our link with these groups is key in order to promote the event, San Blas, and the state at large," Vázquez stated.

The crowning of the queen is a traditional act that generates a lot of interest; the selection process is very involved in order to choose the beauty that will represent San Blas for the next calendar year.

Attractions include the Quema del Mal Humor — literally, "burning bad humor" — that takes place in the main plaza, the coronation of the juvenile regents, plus comedy, art, and culture shows.

The float parade and the big dance to the beat of regional Mexican music will bring the festivities to a close on March 4th.

The San Blas Carnival is just one more example of the Riviera Nayarit’s many Cultural Tourism Offerings.
