Mexico's Airlines Post Record Number of Passengers

For the 2nd consecutive year, Mexico's airline industry registered record levels of passenger transportation. In 2013, the seven airlines operating in the domestic market moved over 30.5 million passengers.

Mexico City, Mexico - According to data from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation during 2013 the seven airlines operating in México’s domestic market moved 30.5 million passengers, 8.5 percent more than the previous year, and the largest number of passengers in its history.

Interjet is the domestic carrier that transports the highest number of passengers, since Mexicana discontinued operations three years ago. During 2013 Interjet’s passenger load was 7.5 million, 11 percent higher than in 2012.

During 2013 Volaris’ passenger load increased 22.6 percent over 2012, carrying just 400,000 fewer passengers than Interjet.

Aeroméxico Connect came in third place with 5.8 million users. The top five was rounded out with AeroMéxico and VivaAerobus, with five million passengers and 3.7 million passengers, respectively.

In the international market Aeroméxico led the international carriers with 3.7 million international passengers, 53 percent of the total. Aeroméxico was followed by Volaris with 1.4 million passengers; Interjet, with 935,000 passengers; Aeroméxico Connect with 752,000 passengers; and VivaAerobus, with 56,000 passengers.
